In times of peace, leaders have less status and thence less power and control over their own resources, and it's ALWAYS about status, and procreation. 2)There is too perfect a fit between Israel's "Chosen People" meme, and the American "City on a Hill" meme for it not to be a two-headed monster, rather than a dog-tail pair.
